Green Key
At Theaterhotel Almelo, we are proud of our Green Key certificate with GOLD label, an international hallmark for sustainable companies in the tourism and leisure industry. This certificate confirms our commitment to environmentally friendly practices and sustainable operations.
Currently, we are undergoing an extensive renovation of our hotel. With every decision we make, we consider sustainable choices. We have already carried out many sustainable renovations and acquired solar panels to reduce our ecological footprint. Our renovations are aimed at improving energy efficiency and minimizing waste, while simultaneously enhancing the comfort and experience of our guests.
In addition, we work closely with local suppliers to support the local economy and shorten transport distances. By using local products and services, we can improve the quality of our facilities while simultaneously reducing our impact on the environment.
At Theaterhotel Almelo, we also place great importance on corporate social responsibility and good employment practices. We aim to make a positive contribution to the community and provide a safe, inclusive, and stimulating work environment for all our employees. We invest in their development and well-being so that they can contribute to our sustainable mission with pride and pleasure.
Our goal is to set an example in the hospitality sector by showing that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand. We invite you to visit us and experience for yourself how we integrate sustainability into everything we do.
Many Green Key measures are invisible, but the effect is significant. Behind the scenes, energy-saving boilers are in place. Printing is only done when absolutely necessary and on sustainable paper with an FSC label. Not only is this print paper recycled, but all the paper used in the Theaterhotel is sustainable. From notepads in the offices to tissues in the hotel rooms, everything is 100% recycled. Reducing paper usage is encouraged as all invoices are done digitally, and we also try to urge suppliers to do invoices digitally. Water-saving measures are also applied by ensuring a maximum flow of nine liters per minute for showers, six liters per minute for faucets, and six liters per flush for toilets. To achieve this flow, water flow restrictors are purchased. Another example is that all maintenance work is done with sustainable products that have a quality mark. For instance, oil paint is no longer used, but instead, sustainable biodegradable paint.
Of course, there are also visible measures. Look at our lighting, our separate waste collection, the breakfast buffet, or the menu in our restaurant. The fish offered in our restaurants is sustainably caught, and regional products that are organic are used. The tea in the hotel is also organically certified, and you eat organic gingerbread during the breakfast buffet. The sustainable toilet paper used can be identified by its slightly light brown color. The lamps we use have all been switched from incandescent to energy-saving lamps, and the halogen lights are becoming LED lighting. Sensors are used where people are not always present, so the light only comes on when needed. And of course, we use sustainable electricity. Even the hotel rooms use sustainable shampoo and soap bottles, with naturally filled 'green soap'.
As you read, we strive for a sustainable purchasing policy that also encourages the market to adopt a more innovation-oriented and sustainable approach to purchasing. We do this by making a conscious choice with every purchase, by examining the entire product lifecycle from start to finish, and considering the possibility of fair trade, organic-certified, and/or local products, etc. In making choices regarding the purchase of products, we consider the impact on the environment and humanity. We look at each product and service individually, so the choice of suppliers and products is based on what is best for the environment and the environment.
