Gravenallee

Walking & Cycling

The Gravenallee in Almelo is the approach to Huize Almelo. This avenue, along which monumental farmhouses with leasehold lands lie, forms a green environment close to the center of Almelo.

From Huize Almelo you look deep down the Gravenallee. This historic hunting avenue is 3.5 kilometres long and ends at the Almelo-Nordhorn Canal. In total the Gravenallee has no less than 16 kilometres of walking and cycling paths and fairytale-like lanes. The landscape alternates with woodland, hedges and tree belts. In the middle of the Graven Forest lies the forest pond. Listen to the birds and enjoy the vistas and the special glimpses. And if you are very quiet you may even find yourself face to face with a roe deer or a pheasant.

Huize Almelo was built in the early thirteenth century and underwent regular transformations over the past centuries. The grounds are private property of the Van Rechteren Limpurg family and are not accessible. But a look at the castle is free and more than worth the effort.

De Gravenallee is prohibited for motorized traffic, with the exception of destination traffic. De Gravenallee is only crossed by the Van Rechteren Limpurgsingel, which is closed during the special case of a funeral from Huize Almelo.
